We Help Hong Kongers
Prepare for What Comes Next

Jade Compass was founded in the belief that retirement planning deserves more than a quick conversation with a salesperson. Our courses give working professionals the knowledge and the space to think clearly.

Our Story

A Firm Founded on a Simple Observation

Jade Compass was established in 2016 by a small team of educators and financial literacy specialists who had each spent a decade working in Central Hong Kong's professional services sector. What they observed, repeatedly, was that highly capable individuals — accountants, engineers, senior managers — arrived in their mid-forties with very little considered understanding of their own retirement position.

The problem was not intelligence or income. It was the absence of structured, independent, product-free education. The courses available tended to arrive embedded in a sales conversation, oriented toward a product purchase rather than genuine understanding.

Jade Compass was built to fill that space. The name reflects the idea of finding your own bearing — not following someone else's map, but developing the navigational confidence to make informed decisions about your own future.

All courses are written and facilitated by specialists with backgrounds in adult education, personal finance, and the specific regulatory context of Hong Kong. The team draws on experience across MPF administration, corporate pension consulting, and community financial education, but the courses themselves carry no product affiliation of any kind.

Mission

To equip Hong Kong professionals with the knowledge and perspective to approach retirement as a considered life chapter — on their own terms, with clear thinking rather than anxiety.

Independence

Jade Compass receives no referral income, commissions, or platform fees from any financial product or service provider. Course fees are the sole source of revenue. This is a deliberate and permanent position.

Approach

Education rather than advice. Reflection rather than urgency. Depth rather than coverage. Each course is designed to be worth the time it asks for — and to leave participants more capable than when they began.

How We Work

Standards We Hold Ourselves To

These are not marketing commitments. They are operating principles that shape every course, every cohort, and every participant interaction at Jade Compass.

Product Independence

No course content is shaped by commercial relationships. Jade Compass does not accept sponsorship from banks, insurers, or fund providers. Content decisions are made on educational merit alone.

Annual Content Review

Course materials are reviewed and updated each year to reflect changes in MPF regulations, tax legislation, and retirement planning practices relevant to Hong Kong residents.

Privacy by Default

Participant information is never shared with third parties. Group discussion forums are private to enrolled cohorts. Workbook responses belong to participants alone.

Managed Cohort Sizes

Group discussion sessions are capped at twelve participants to ensure that every person has room to contribute and that facilitators can give meaningful attention to each individual's situation.

Accessibility First

All materials are produced in clear, accessible language without assuming financial industry knowledge. Content and platform formatting accounts for readers across a wide range of technical backgrounds.

Participant Feedback Loop

Every cohort concludes with a detailed feedback review. Facilitator notes and participant responses are used directly in the next iteration of each course.

Our Expertise

Financial Education Rooted in Hong Kong's Reality

Hong Kong's retirement landscape is shaped by the Mandatory Provident Fund, which became compulsory for most employees in 2000. For professionals now in their 40s and 50s, MPF has been accumulating for up to two decades — yet many have limited understanding of their actual fund allocation, the fees being deducted, or how their MPF balance interacts with other savings.

At Jade Compass, course development begins with the specific financial architecture Hong Kong residents navigate: the MPF framework, ORSO schemes for some employers, the absence of a capital gains tax, the particular healthcare considerations for those who may retire before accessing public hospital entitlements, and the cultural patterns around family financial responsibility that affect retirement planning decisions for many households.

The non-financial dimensions of retirement receive equal attention. Research consistently indicates that financial preparation, while necessary, does not on its own produce a satisfying retirement. Questions of identity, purpose, social connection, and time structure are woven into the Full Readiness Programme because they shape how financial decisions get made and whether those decisions hold over time.

Jade Compass participants tend to return to the same themes: they wanted to understand their own situation rather than simply be told what to do. The courses are designed for exactly that kind of learner — thoughtful, self-directed, and ready to engage with complexity.
