What People Say
From the Participants
Grace Wong
Finance Director · Wan Chai
"I had been putting off looking at my MPF properly for years. The four-week intensive made it feel manageable — not because it simplified things artificially, but because it gave me a clear order to think through them. The fee analysis worksheet alone changed how I look at my quarterly statements."

Michael Chan
Senior Engineer · Kowloon
"My wife and I did the Full Readiness Programme together, which worked well — we had the same materials but noticed different things. The non-financial modules surprised me the most. I hadn't expected a retirement course to ask me what I actually want to do with my time."

Amy Lau
Headteacher · Sham Shui Po
"I went in not expecting to find the group discussions useful — I tend to prefer working through things privately. But hearing from others in their mid-forties with similar questions made a real difference. The Retirement Map gave me a structure to think within, which I didn't have before."

Operations Manager · Tuen Mun
"The course is clear that it is education, not advice, and that framing works. I didn't feel sold to at any point. What I got was a much clearer picture of what I actually own, what fees I'm paying, and what questions I should bring to my MPF provider."
Pension & MPF Review Intensive · March 2025
Eleanor Ho
Solicitor · Central
"I have a legal background, so I appreciate precision. The Jade Compass materials are careful — they say what they know and what they don't. The estate and healthcare modules in the Full Programme were more thorough than I expected. The one-hour review session at the end was worth doing."

Paul Tang
Architect · Sai Kung
"I appreciated that the six-week format didn't try to cover everything. It knew what it was — a foundation — and did that well. I came away with a clearer picture of where I stand and a list of specific things to follow up on. That feels like a good outcome for six weeks."

Participant Stories
A closer look at how three participants engaged with Jade Compass courses at different stages of their planning.
Story One
From Avoidance to Action — A Finance Director's Account
The Situation
Grace had worked in corporate finance for eighteen years and understood financial concepts well professionally. Her own retirement picture, however, had been ignored. Four MPF accounts from three previous employers, no consolidated view, and a vague sense that she should deal with it.
The Course
Grace enrolled in the Pension and MPF Review Intensive. Over four weeks she worked through the consolidation process, completed a full fee analysis across her four accounts, and identified a significant allocation mismatch relative to her timeline. She used the private forum extensively.
What Changed
By the end of the four weeks, Grace had consolidated to a single account, revised her fund allocation, and had a clear document outlining what she wanted to ask her financial advisor at their next meeting. The avoidance had, she said, largely been about not knowing where to start.
"The course gave me a framework. Once I had that, the action followed on its own."

Story Two
A Couple Working Through the Full Picture Together
The Situation
Michael and his wife were both in their early 50s and had never done any structured retirement planning together. They had separate MPF accounts, different ideas about when they might retire, and no shared view of what the numbers actually looked like.
The Course
Both enrolled in the Full Retirement Readiness Programme. They completed the workbooks separately, which produced different observations and opened several conversations they had not previously had. The non-financial modules prompted the most discussion — particularly around purpose and time use.
What Changed
After twelve weeks and a joint Compass Review session, they had a combined cash-flow model, a clearer shared picture of their retirement timeline, and a list of specific steps — including speaking to an estate lawyer and reviewing their life cover.
"The surprising part was how differently we each approached the same material. That turned out to be the most useful thing."
Michael C. · Senior Engineer
Story Three
Building a Foundation Before the More Detailed Work
The Situation
Paul was 47 and had recently moved to self-employment after years in a large architecture firm. The transition meant losing employer MPF contributions and needing to manage voluntary contributions himself — a situation he found disorienting.
The Course
He enrolled in the Midlife Retirement Map as a starting point, wanting a clear picture of his overall position before tackling specific decisions. He used the workbooks to document his situation as a self-employed contributor and raised specific questions in the group sessions.
What Changed
Paul completed the six weeks with a clear articulation of his retirement income needs, a revised voluntary contribution plan, and the intention to follow up with the MPF Intensive the following quarter to go deeper on fund selection.
"Six weeks felt like the right amount of time. I didn't need to solve everything — I needed a clear place to stand."
